Artist Biography

I have hungry eyes. They’re like a lens on a super 8 camera and when they are not devouring the crazy world before me, my brain is busy organizing the beauty and chaos in this complicated world. My thoughts are always looking out the windows of my eyes, racing along and creating as I go.

An introduction becomes a sketch, a face a caricature, a body a sculpture, a smile a landscape, trees swaying in the breeze a ballet. Then, when my brain finds all this input to overwhelming, it shuts down and begins to count 56, 57, 58, 59 and so I stop the racing thoughts, re-focus, close my eyes and start carving shapes out of the blackness. That’s how it is.

I’m a constant digger. Some of my influences are African art, Egyptian art, fetishism, graffiti, outsider, modern, primitive, super flat, hyper real, fashion, advertising, architecture, photography and movies. I’m fascinated by the way film editing can have rushes of contrasting ideas and imagery that induce a multitude of emotions in a matter of moments. My paintings are my movies, ironic, playful, schizophrenic, dark, and funny. They’re also my stories, my soulful expressions, my children and my urban hieroglyphics.

Art is my narcotic of choice.
